IT IS WRITTEN                ©Brian Hooper, 2005

V1    It is written that God will send a saviour
He will free us from suffering and pain;
He will lead God’s people to glory.
Come, saviour, come to reign.

Chorus        Light of the world, now is the time;
Light of the world, come, shine.

V2    Prophets of old, they told us of his coming,
(Prophets of old, they told us of his coming)
Wise men tried their hardest to explain (Wise men tried their hardest to explain)
The meaning of the signs and the prophesies; (prophesies)
Come, saviour, come to reign.

Chorus        Light of the world, now is the time;
Light of the world, come, shine.

Bridge        Will we see him riding out in majesty,
        Sword in hand, avenging all evil and sin?
        How will we know if he comes as a friend,
        Teaching and healing and loving us?

V3    Once the world lay waiting for a saviour (come Saviour)
Hoping that the wait was not in vain (come Saviour)
Now we know we shall see Emmanuel (Emmanuel)
Come, saviour, come to reign.

Chorus        Light of the world, now is the time;
Light of the world, come, shine.   (end on low note)
                        Light of the world, now is the time;
Light of the world, come, shine.   (build up chord)
Light of the world, now is the time;
Light of the world, come, shine.   (complete chord)

Modern Advent songs are quite rare so I decided to write one.  It’s from the viewpoint of people living a bit before Jesus, not knowing what kind of saviour they’re going to get but confident it’s going to happen.
It was written specifically for “After The Rain”, and the lines in small print are echoes, sung by the ‘raindrops’.  We recorded it on a CD called “The Glory Is For You” and we may still have a copy or two.
