In distress I cried out            ©Brian Hooper, August 2007

In distress I cried out to the Lord,
And he set me free.
I'm no longer afraid for the Lord,
The Lord is with me.
He is my strength and my song,
He helps me to know the right from the wrong.
In distress I cried out to the Lord, and he set me free.

So I offer my praises to God,
For all He has done.
He has shown me the way and the life,
In Jesus His son.
Praising His name all the time,
The awful becomes in some way sublime.
So I offer my praises to God, for all He has done.

In distress I cried out to the Lord,
And he set me free.
I'm no longer afraid for the Lord,
The Lord is with me.
And I will give thanks to the Lord;
My salvation is here in His loving word.
In distress I cried out to the Lord, and he set me free.

Based loosely on verses from Psalm 118, this song was written specifically for “After The Rain”.  We sing the last line of the last verse as a three-part round, relying on the conga drums to keep it all together.
